Day 1 of the new med-dosage

I haven't been blogging much; I'm just too busy!  AK!

Also, the new meds don't help.  I was started a few weeks ago on Provigil, which makes me nervous and agitated—it stresses me out because I feel even more overwhelmed by everything than usual.  To make things worse, it seems to aggravate my ADHD so I run around in circles doing a billion things and accomplishing nothing.

Today they upped my dose.  Hello?  I was having a hard time with it, so why not make it worse?  I'm crazier even that usual with sixteen projects all going on at once and dashing back and forth between them like a ninny.

Provigil is an upper.  I am very sensitive to stimulants.  I tell my doctor that and he says this works by a different mechanism.  Maybe, but I feel as if I had twelve cups of coffee and the crash is like coming down from 12 cups of coffee.  I read that coffee any time, even early in the AM disturbs a sleep cycle.  That's all I need.  Oh well, we'll see!

Did you get a reasonable explanation for why the dose being upped could possibly help? Maybe it is one of those things you have tot ake for a while before it works. I wish you luck!

SAM (400 - 800 mg per day) counteracts the fatigue, inflammation and pain of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia patients have reported improved sleep, reduced fatigue and a reduction in trigger points and pain, and an improvement in mood after using supplemental SAM.

800 - 1,600 mg of SAM per day is recommended for fibromyalgia patients. It has been demonstrated to alleviate the chronic pain and depression that occurs in fibromyalgia patients.

I did some research for you on SAMe and fibromyalgia. Hope this works. I copied and pasted.

My sister's a biochemist, and gave me this program to research drugs and natural alternatives. I looked up Provigil. It's considered a smart drug, and is used to increase alertness, delay fatigue in sleep deprived patients, and improve creativity [as well as a list of many other things]. It does this by stimulating Alpha 1 Adrenergic Receptors, also known as Norepinephrine Receptors. From what I've read about it, it sounds like your adrenals are shot. Norepinephrine is produced by the adrenals, counteracts obesity, increases alertness, minimizes pain, essential for drive and motivation, and a deficiency is a major cause of depression. It's also needed to produce melatonin, along with SAMe [S-Adenosylmethionine]. Melatonin is needed for proper sleep. You seem to be deficient in these substances.

Herbs that enhance Norepinephrine: ginko biloba, green tea, Korean and Siberian ginseng, St. John's wort, and garlic. Butchers broom stimulates Alpha Adrenergic receptors. Supplemental SAMe increases seratonin and melatonin as well as helps Norepinephrine. It also helps the liver, joints, and body detox. I hope you were able to recieve the research I sent in the previous comment on SAMe and fibromyalgia. Hope this helps.

Oh ps. SAMe and Melatonin has done wonders for me, as well as an adrenal glandular supplement. Dandylion root helps the adrenals, too.

Thanks Berrybird and Blue Rose for all your comments. I will ahve to look into this--pretty scary to think that my adrenals might be shot. YIKES!

I did do a little research on Provigil myself, but not as extensive as this.

I am definitely obese, a little depressed and in pain. The Provigil helps the pain. I haven't lost any weight though.

I never heard of SAMe, so I will have to check it out.

i have tried several ADHD meds including this Pro vigil . I had auditory hallucinations as well I couldn't concentrate on the outcome but I was more obsessed with the process. No good I am researching some teas now. We will see. I am also highly sensitive and just after taking the dose I have about twenty minutes of clarity followed by crazy!

I ended up really hating the provigil. It made me terribly nervous and made my sleep problems worse--hope it or something works for you.
